From glacial erosion to basin overfill: a 240 m-thick overdeepening–fill sequence in Bern, Switzerland

چکیده

Abstract. We drilled a 210 m-thick succession of Quaternary sediments and extended it 30 m upsection with information that we collected from an adjacent outcrop. In the 240 identified 12 different lithofacies, grouped them into five facies assemblages, distinguished two major sedimentary sequences. A sharp contact at 103 depth cuts off cross-beds in sequence separates overlying horizontal beds B. Although lowermost assemblage each includes till deposited during period ice cover, tills differ other. particular, base is dominated by large clasts derived underlying Molasse bedrock, whereas B has no such components. Furthermore, bears evidence glaciotectonic deformation. Both are overlain thick assemblages subaqueous, most likely glaciolacustrine lacustrine elements. The cross-bedded steeply inclined sand, gravel, diamictic interpreted as deposits density currents subaqueous ice-contact fan system within proglacial lake. contrast, considered to record less energetic environment where material was prodelta setting gradually developed delta plain. Towards top, evolves fluvial recorded C, when sediment fluxes possibly advancing glacier resulted widespread cover region gravel unit. Erosion-rate determination from foreland basin geometry

The geometry of foreland basins is controlled by a dynamic balance between thrust-belt migration, fl exural subsidence, and fl uvial deposition. To improve our ability to quantify the relationships between tectonics, climate, and foreland basin geometry, I developed analytic solutions for basin topography and stratigraphy using a classic two-dimensional mathematical model of foreland basin evol...

Phosphorus load to surface water from bank erosion in a Danish lowland river basin.

Phosphorus loss from bank erosion was studied in the catchment of River Odense, a lowland Danish river basin, with the aim of testing the hypothesis of whether stream banks act as major diffuse phosphorus (P) sources at catchment scale. Furthermore, the study aimed at analyzing the impact of different factors influencing bank erosion and P loss such as stream order, anthropogenic disturbances, ...

A climatology of the diurnal variations in stratospheric and mesospheric ozone over Bern, Switzerland

The ground-based radiometer GROMOS, stationed in Bern (47.95 N, 7.44 E), Switzerland, has a unique data set: it obtains ozone profiles from November 1994 to present with a time resolution of 30 min and equivalent quality during nightand daytime. Here, we derive a monthly climatology of the daily ozone cycle from 17 years of GROMOS observation. We present the diurnal ozone variation of the strat...
